Shipham First School Alumnus Embarks on Epic Solo Cycling Journey from Shipham to Singapore!

March 22, 2024

On Monday, Esme, a former pupil of Shipham First School set off from her previous school to cycle all the way to Singapore, cycling through Europe, Turkey, the Stans, China, and beyond. This ambitious journey, estimated to take around 12 to 15 months, will take her through diverse landscapes ranging from mountains to deserts, towns to remote villages. Before she left on this remarkable journey, she spoke to current pupils at the school, answering really important questions like ‘how will you charge your phone’! Staff and pupils then proudly cheered her goodbye as she set off on her journey.

Esme’s solo expedition is not just a personal challenge; it’s a mission with a profound purpose. Throughout her journey, she aims to raise awareness and funds for mental health charity Body and Soul. With mental health issues affecting countless individuals worldwide, her initiative embodies a commitment to destigmatising mental health and promoting well-being.

Equipped with nothing but her bicycle and essentials strapped to it, including a tent, stove, sleeping bag, first aid kit, and more, Esme is embracing the spirit of adventure and self-sufficiency. Her journey will be marked by camping under the stars, occasional hostel stays, and encounters with fellow travellers along the way. While she embarks on this solo expedition, Esme will also have friends joining her for segments of the journey, offering companionship and support during her epic trek.

As Esme sets off on this remarkable journey, her story serves as a testament to the power of human resilience, kindness, and the unwavering pursuit of a noble cause. To make a donation please visit her fundraising page here and follow her journey on Instagram here.
