Initial Teacher Training with the Wessex Learning Trust and the Mid Somerset Consortium
The Mid Somerset Consortium (MSC) is a School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider and is part of the Wessex Learning Trust (WLT) family of schools. Based at Crispin School in Street, the MSC works in partnership with schools all over Somerset, North Somerset and North Dorset to provide trainees with local training placement schools.
The MSC offers high-quality initial teacher training within an intimate community of trainees. The programme is carefully designed to build a trainee teacher’s confidence in the classroom, hone their skills, and enhance their knowledge as a teacher. From practical training in placement schools to weekly theory-based sessions, the MSC provides a comprehensive learning experience, supporting the next generation of teachers every step of the way.
The Wessex Learning Trust’s trusted partner for teacher training, the MSC works closely to support trainees and deliver outstanding results. From considering a trainee’s home school placement preferences to ongoing tailored support throughout the course, the MSC helps future teachers succeed and reach their full potential.
Offering a truly ‘school based’ training programme with trainees spending most of their course working alongside expert practitioners within their placement school, MSC trainees will have dedicated subject specific mentors who are highly trained in their role and will work with them as the trainee builds up their knowledge and confidence to teach classes. Each week, the MSC provides professional training: a mixture of subject specific pedagogy led by a subject specialist and centralised training exploring current research-based practice lead by MSC central staff.
Unique to the MSC, a number of training sessions are delivered cross phase whereby there is an opportunity for Primary and Secondary trainee teachers to train alongside each other to enhance their understanding of child development and curriculum across a wide range of Key Stages. The MSC curriculum provides trainees with the depth and breadth of knowledge that they will need to effectively teach their subject with confidence and readiness.
