Celebration and Commissioning of New Leaders in Education at Bishop’s Palace

September 24, 2024

On 24 September 2024, Wessex Learning Trust was proud to attend the prestigious Celebration and Commissioning of New Leaders in Education event, held at the historic Bishop’s Palace in Wells. The event brought together educational leaders, clergy, and supporters from across the region to celebrate new appointments and strengthen the partnership between Church schools and the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

The Wessex Learning Trust, which supports 10 Church schools within the Diocese, was honoured to be part of this special occasion. The Trust’s commitment to nurturing both the academic and spiritual growth of its students was reaffirmed during the event, as leaders discussed the important role of Christian values in shaping the curriculum and daily life in Church schools.

A Shared Commitment to Christian Values in Education

At the heart of Wessex Learning Trust’s mission is a deep commitment to supporting its Church schools in living out their Christian ethos. Through collaboration with the Diocese of Bath and Wells, the Trust ensures that its schools not only excel academically but also provide a nurturing environment where students are encouraged to grow spiritually and ethically.

“We are incredibly proud of the strong partnership we share with the Diocese,” said the Trust’s Chief Executive. “It is through this collaboration that we can help our students develop a deeper understanding of Christian values, not only through their studies but in all aspects of their school life. Together, we are creating an environment where faith and education go hand in hand.”

A Moment of Reflection and Fellowship

During the event, the Trust’s Chief Executive had the honour of meeting The Rt Revd Michael Beasley, Bishop of Bath and Wells. The conversation focused on the shared goals of the Diocese and Wessex Learning Trust in nurturing the spiritual well-being and academic excellence of students across the region.

“The partnership between the Diocese and the Wessex Learning Trust is vital in ensuring that our Church schools provide the best possible educational experience for our students, grounded in Christian faith and values,” said Bishop Beasley. “It is inspiring to see the commitment of the Trust in supporting our schools, and I look forward to the continued growth and success of this partnership.”

Nurturing Spiritual and Academic Growth

At Wessex Learning Trust, the focus is on developing well-rounded individuals who not only achieve academic success but also grow in character, faith, and service to others. By embedding Christian principles into every aspect of school life—from the curriculum to the wider school community—the Trust ensures that students leave with a strong sense of purpose and a clear moral compass.

“We believe in an education that goes beyond academic excellence,” said the Chief Executive. “Our schools are places where students are encouraged to live out Christian values such as kindness, compassion, and respect. These values shape the way they interact with each other, their teachers, and the wider world. It’s this holistic approach that truly prepares them for a bright and meaningful future.”

The Celebration and Commissioning of New Leaders in Education event marked an important moment for both the Wessex Learning Trust and the Diocese of Bath and Wells, strengthening their shared vision for the future of Church schools. As the Trust continues to grow, it remains committed to supporting its 10 Church schools in their mission to provide an education rooted in faith and excellence.
