Cheddar Pre-School, part of the Wessex Learning Trust, has received high praise from Ofsted, achieving a ‘Good’ rating in all areas. The inspection, which took place in September, highlighted the nursery’s nurturing environment, dedicated staff, and strong partnerships with parents, ensuring that each child receives the best possible start to their educational journey.

A Stimulating and Supportive Environment

In the Ofsted report, the inspector commended the nursery for creating a warm, engaging, and stimulating environment where babies are encouraged to explore, develop skills, and engage with a variety of sensory activities. From splashing in water trays to sensory play with sand, the nursery provides a rich and diverse curriculum that supports both physical and cognitive development.

The report noted that the curriculum is carefully planned to identify and address any developmental gaps, ensuring that all children make significant progress from their starting points. This thoughtful approach ensures that each child’s individual needs are met, giving them the best chance to succeed as they move forward in their educational journey.

A key strength highlighted by the inspector was the active involvement of parents in their children’s learning. The report notes that communication between the nursery and families is regular, open, and meaningful, with events and activities designed to strengthen the connection between home and nursery. Parents have praised the nursery’s supportive environment, with many highlighting the sense of inclusion and the strong role they play in their child’s development.

Suzi Smith, Headteacher of Cheddar Pre-School, expressed her pride in the recent Ofsted report, saying, “We are absolutely delighted with our ‘Good’ rating in all areas. This result reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire team. Our goal has always been to provide an environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to learn, and it’s wonderful to see this recognised in the inspector’s comments. The strong partnerships we have with families are central to everything we do, and we are proud to work hand in hand with parents to support every child’s growth and development.”

The Wessex Learning Trust continues to support its schools and nurseries in delivering exceptional early years education, with Cheddar Pre-School setting a shining example of what can be achieved when passionate staff, families, and communities come together to support children’s development.
