Wessex Learning Trust Marks Remembrance Day

11 November, 2025

Today, the Wessex Learning Trust community came together in solemn remembrance to honour those who have given their lives in service to our country. Across our 23 schools, alongside Kings Fitness and Leisure and the Mid Somerset Consortium, students, staff, and guests united in reflection and gratitude.

Led by our Chaplain, Ruth Motion, the ceremony offered a moment of collective stillness and respect. Our Chief Executive, Gavin Ball, gave a moving reading of In Flanders Fields, reminding us of the enduring significance of remembrance and the sacrifices that safeguard our freedom.

The ceremony concluded with a beautiful and heartfelt performance of The Last Post, played by Ollie, a student from Kings Academy. His performance served as a fitting tribute to the courage and dedication of all who have served — and continue to serve — in times of conflict.

Jo Cowper, Headteacher at Kings Academy, said:
“It was an honour to host the Wessex Learning Trust’s Remembrance Service at Kings Academy. It was clear that the students and pupils from all schools had a deep understanding and respect for those who had fallen, and they delivered their names with great dignity and solemnity. Our thanks extend to all students who laid wreaths, spoke, or performed, and our thoughts are with those who have lost someone through conflict.”

As we paused together, we reflected on the bravery, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of the fallen.

Lest we forget.
