Roaring Success! – Winner of #NametheDragon Competition Announced
March 12, 2021
By Sam Kail-Dyke – Wessex Learning Trust
We were very proud this week to reveal the winner of our #NametheDragon competition as Ebony, a Year One at Weare First School. Her chosen name for our very cute pre-school mascot (pictured below) was ‘Ella’, and was picked out of more then 200 entries from children across the Trust.
Ella, designed by former Trust student Jess Blacklock, will become the mascot for all 10 of our Wessex Learning Trust Pre-Schools and stand for the exceptional care and early years education that they provide.
As a prize for entering the winning name, Ebony was presented with a framed certificate, letter of congratulations from our Chief Executive Gavin Ball, and – most importantly – a box of chocolates!
Executive Headteacher at Weare, Denise Mawdsley, said of Ebony’s win:
“I’m really proud of Ebony’s entry being chosen out of so many children across the Trust to name the new pre-school mascot! I really look forward to her being able to see Ella the Dragon around school in the years to come, and to be able to remember how she played her part in naming her”
Denise Mawdsley – Executive Headteacher
Chief Executive of the Trust, Gavin Ball went on to say:
“I wish to extent my congratulations to Ebony for winning the competition to name our new pre-school mascot. Ella will feature in promotion and marketing campaigns for our pre-schools going forward and stand for the excellence which Wessex Pre-Schools believe in. I very much hope Ebony enjoys seeing Ella around in the future”
Gavin Ball – Chief Executive
We hope that you enjoy spotting Ella around our schools, and that she serves as a fitting mascot for them. Congratulations once again to Ebony for her winning entry, and thank you to everyone who entered – it was great to see so many people getting involved.
