Learners Excel in 2024 A-Level and Vocational Exam Results
August 15, 2024
Wessex Learning Trust schools and learners have, today, had another successful year of sixth form exam results, with many happy faces seen across the Trust this morning as learners came to school to pick up their results.
The outcomes received are testament to the hard work and commitment of the young people and staff in our schools, and also demonstrate the high standards of provision provided by Wessex Learning Trust sixth forms, as noted in the recent ‘outstanding’ Ofsted judgement for the sixth form at Nailsea School.
Across Kings and Nailsea School sixth forms there were more than 600 entries across a wide variety of qualifications, with 79% of learners taking A-levels achieving grades of A*-C, and 25% achieving A*-A. Additionally, 54% of students undertaking a vocational course achieved a distinction or above in their assessments.
Beyond the headline data however it is worth highlighting some particularly exceptional results, for instance at Nailsea Sixth Form where results are well above the national average with 40% of A-level results at the centre achieving an A*-A, and 74% of vocational courses achieving a Distinction or above.
Following this successful set of results, many of our learners will now go on to university or other further study, enter employment, or take a gap year. For instance at Kings, Aum Shah, Toby Marshall and Leah Bowden all achieved at least three A* grades and will go onto read Maths at the University of Manchester, take up an apprenticeship in accounting, and read Business and Management at the University of Exeter, respectively. Meanwhile at Nailsea destinations include apprenticeships at Clevedon Auction House and university places at the Universities of Bristol, Bath, and Exeter for subjects as diverse as Aeronautical Engineering to Sports Management.
Trust Chief Executive, Gavin Ball, commented on the results: “I am immensely proud of the results achieved by our learners across our two exceptional sixth form centres and congratulate everyone receiving results today. I wish you all the very best with your next steps, whatever they may be, and very much look forward to hearing what this years’ cohort go on to do as they leave school and enter the next chapter of their lives”.
Both our sixth form centres offer A-level and vocational routes, a high-quality future pathways curriculum and an extensive personal development programme including opportunities to volunteer, complete work experience and take on student leadership roles.
