Year One children at Weare First School have this term been learning about the author, Judith Kerr. Most famous perhaps for her classic children’s book – the Tiger Who Came to Tea – as a celebration, the children held their own ‘Tiger Tea Party’!
As part of their literacy this term, the children have been focussing on instructional writing, and thus before the party could begin they had to write some instructions on how to create their own tiger mask … the products of which can be seen in all their glory in the photos below.
On the day, the children all dressed up as fearsome, but friendly tigers and spent the morning following more instruction text to make their own delicious fairy cakes. Some children even made their cakes all by themselves! In the afternoon, the little tigers used their tiger invitations to come into the tiger tea party where they ate their cakes and watched the Tiger that came to tea short film. They also learnt more about Judith Kerr’s life, how she began writing and designed and decorated our own teapots.
We definitely think they had a great time, and hopefully in the process got to learn a lot about writing. We’re hoping they may even have some cakes left over for us!
